Tri-State Surgery Center is seeking a Peri-Operative Registered Nurse to join their team! This position will work in the Pre/Post-Operative  area. As a pre/post-op RN, you will provide quality, professional nursing care for clinical patients following licensure requirements, Standards of practice and within the nursing scope of practice. You must be an energetic, self-motivated, team-oriented individual with excellent communication skills and be able to positively relate with others in a fast paced environment.

The Tri-State Surgery Center, jointly owned and operated by Medical Associates Clinic and MercyOne Medical Center, is the region's first freestanding facility devoted exclusively to outpatient surgery.      
      
The Center consists of three operating rooms and two special procedure rooms and provides a variety of outpatient procedures for patients of all ages. Areas of specialties include ophthalmology, orthopaedics, gastroenterology, gynecology, podiatry, plastic surgery, ear, nose and throat, and general surgeries not requiring overnight stays. An estimated 6,000 procedures can be performed annually at the Tri-State Surgery Center.     
 
Schedule: Monday - Friday daytime hours. No evenings, weekends, holidays, or call!

Pre/Post Operative Position responsibilities Include:      
  • Prepare patients preoperatively for surgery according to protocols
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient and family education
  • Provide immediate post-operative care          
  • Provide care to both pediatric and adult patients in a multi-specialty surgery center
      
Essential Functions:      
  • Conduct systematic assessments of patient status, initiate critical decision making processes and implement on-going evaluations of plan of care.
  • Perform nursing care for the patient in the immediate pre/postoperative period, assessing and documenting the patient’s status prior to the procedure as well as upon arrival in the recovery room. 
  • Provide nursing care to meet patient needs related to the surgical condition and type of anesthesia administered, monitoring the patient and informing the surgeon and/or anesthesia provider of any observed complications.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team based on evidenced based guidelines to direct/perform independent nursing triage and intervention using critical thinking skills and provide emergency care as needed according to department protocols.       
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience/Education:      
  • RN License
  • ACLS and PALS certification. May complete upon hire.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, leadership, physicians, anesthesia, patients and visitors.      


Physical Aspects:

Stooping - Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Kneeling - Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

Crouching - Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

Reaching - Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing - Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Walking - Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances.

Pushing - Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

Pulling - Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Lifting - Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

Fingering - Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

Grasping - Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Feeling - Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

Talking - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly or quickly.

Hearing - Perceiving the nature of sound with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machined parts.
Vision - 20 / 40 or better in the best eye with or without correction.

Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds force constantly to move objects.
